Boisset Targets Luxury Tequila With Casa Obsidiana

November 15, 2023

The Boisset Collection has launched Casa Obsidiana, a new luxury-priced Tequila made in collaboration with the Beckmann Gonzalez family. Casa Obsidiana is rolling out now to select retailers in California and Texas. It includes Blanco, Reposado, and Añejo Tequilas (all 40% abv) priced at $190, $250, and $330, respectively.

The Tequilas are all rested in French oak barrels that previously held Napa Valley Chardonnay, with the Blanco seeing 16 days in wood, the Reposado four months, and the Añejo 15 months. “Our goal was really to create a sipping Tequila,” cofounder Jean-Charles Boisset told SND, adding that the plan for 2024 is market expansion focused on high-end Mexican restaurants and bars, as well as luxury retail. Casa Obsidiana is also available DTC and at Boisset’s new Calistoga Depot Distillery, which will serve as the brand’s home in the U.S. Volumes of the luxury label will remain limited, with the Tequila made in small batches.

Casa Obsidiana is distilled by Francisco Quijana, CEO and master distiller at Tierra de Agaves (and creator of Heaven Hill’s Lunazul Tequila) from agave grown on the Beckmann Gonzalez estate in Jalisco. “We’re using only the best agave we have on our own estate,” cofounder and brand vice president Roberto Beckmann Gonzalez told SND. “We don’t source from outside for this product.”—Shane English
