News Briefs for January 17, 2024
January 17, 2024•Brown-Forman has announced the fifth release in Old Forester’s Whiskey Row series, 1924. The whiskey is bottled at 50% abv and is a 10-year-old Bourbon made from a mash of 79% corn, 11% rye, and 10% malted barley, a first from Old Forester. This release and the new mash bill pay tribute to Old Forester’s Prohibition-era practice of purchasing aging stocks from closed distilleries, since it was one of six distilleries allowed to continue operating during Prohibition. Old Forester 1924 carries a suggested retail price of $115 and is rolling out now across the U.S., in addition to availability at the brand’s distillery.
•Delicato Family Wines has introduced the first 0% abv wine from the Relax brand, Alcohol-Removed Chardonnay. The wine, which is vacuum distilled after traditional production to remove the alcohol, has 44 calories per 8-ounce serving. The new release is rolling out now to retailers across the U.S. for a suggested price of $12 a bottle, joining Relax Riesling and Relax Rosé in the brand’s portfolio.
•Winebow Imports has expanded its portfolio of California wines, adding Paso Robles’ Ancient Peaks to Winebow’s Pioneer division. The deal, effective February 1, is an expansion of a prior agreement between the companies, with the expansion bringing Ancient Peaks into the Winebow fold nationally. Ancient Peaks, sourced from the winery’s Margarita vineyard, farms nearly 1,000 acres and releases Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, and others, typically ranging in price from $18 to $25, with halo releases pushing closer to $60 or more.
•Sazerac’s Corazón has announced the Expresiones del Corazón 2023 Collection, a line of limited edition Tequilas matured in a variety of Buffalo Trace Distillery’s whiskey barrels. The line—five Añejo Tequilas and one Blanco—are all bottled at 40% abv with the Añejos retailing for $80 and the Blanco for $60. The five Añejo Tequilas are matured in Weller 12 barrels for 26 months, Old Charter Oak French Oak Bourbon barrels for 13 months, Sazerac’s 18-year-old rye for 24 months, George T. Stagg barrels for 22 months, and William Larue Weller barrels for 15 months respectively. The collection is available in limited quantities across the U.S.
