•Papa’s Pilar Rum is introducing its Legacy Edition 2023, a tribute to surfing legend Greg Noll. Made with rums from the Caribbean and South America that were blended in Bourbon barrels and Spanish Sherry casks, it was finished in once-used Apple Brandy French Limousin oak casks, with a small amount also finished in apricot and orange bitters casks. 3,000 bottles are rolling out to California, Hawaii, Florida, New Jersey, South Carolina, and Texas, retailing at $109 a 750-ml. Developed in conjunction with Ernest Hemingway’s estate, Papa’s Pilar is expected to reach volume of approximately 100,000 cases this year.

•California’s Bronco Wine Co. has elected Michael J. Franzia as chairman. He has worked for Bronco Wine Co. for nearly 30 years and served on the board since 2016, most recently as vice chairman. With the passing of co-founder Fred T. Franzia in late 2022, and fellow co-founders Joseph S. Franzia and John G. Franzia stepping away from the board last year, the company says that 13 second-generation siblings and cousins have worked to execute a transition plan that creates a clear path for the business moving forward. The appointment of Franzia as chairman is a key part of that effort. SND recently caught up with Bronco CEO Dan Leonard for an update.
