Mary Jones Cannabis Drinks Rising From A Small Base

March 19, 2024

Jones Soda Co.’s Mary Jones line of cannabis-infused drinks is rising from a small base, with the company expecting strong growth from its hemp-derived THC lineup looking ahead. Mary Jones cannabis beverages reached $1.2 million in revenue for full-year 2023, up from less than $400,000 in revenue. For the company’s fiscal fourth quarter 2023, Mary Jones’s revenue was at $430,000, just about $200,000 more than during the prior-year period. Overall, the Mary Jones brand made up 7.2% of Jones Soda Co.’s overall revenue of $16.7 million for 2023.

“We are seeing increased revenue opportunities in 2024 as we expand our geographies and product lines. Our Washington launch has been a great success, and Mary Jones Berry Lemonade and Mary Jones Root Beer were, according to our sources in Washington, the top selling cannabis beverages in the state during the past 4-week period,” said David Knight, president and CEO. “Our launch in Canada with our partner Tilray is also off to a great start, and we have had to accelerate the production of our next load of inventory.”

Mary Jones also launched a line of Delta-9 THC beverages in 2023. The company is aiming for retail distribution of the hemp-derived beverages in 30 states by the middle of this year. As of February, Mary Jones Delta-9 drinks were available through the company’s online store and in distribution in seven markets. “This is a new and developing category across the country and we believe the company is well primed to emerge as one of the market leaders. Our new e-commerce platform is up and running and our online sales are a month in, and we are off to a great start,” said Knight.

While Mary Jones is working to expand distribution for its beverage offerings, the company continues to expand into new cannabis form factors. Last week, Mary Jones launched Fizzy Tabs, a new low-dose edible, in California. The 2.5-mg. per tablet edible comes in three flavors—Green Apple, MF Grape, and Fufu Berry—with 40 tablets per package.—Shane English
