Diageo Names John Manzoni To Succeed Ferran As Chair
March 19, 2024Diageo has appointed non-executive director John Manzoni as its incoming chairman. Manzoni will replace Javier Ferran in the role on or around February 5 of next year. Ferran will retire from the board after serving as chair since 2017.
Manzoni joined Diageo’s board in October 2020, after serving as chief executive of the UK Civil Service from 2014 to 2020. He’s currently chair of FTSE-listed multinational energy business SSE plc and a non-executive director of engineering and technology business KBR, Inc. He was previously a non-executive director of SABMiller for 11 years, and earlier in his career served as CEO of Talisman Energy and in senior roles at BP plc.
Diageo posted global sales down 0.6% to $11 billion for its fiscal first half ended in December. Organic operating profit slipped 5.4% to $3.3 billion, hampered by a slowdown in Latin America. The North America business—accounting for 37% of global sales—slipped 2% to $4.1 billion in the first half.—Daniel Marsteller
