Foley Enters Tequila With El Mexicano Brand

April 2, 2024

Foley Family Wines (FFW) is entering the Tequila category, becoming the exclusive U.S. importer for the El Mexicano brand, owned and produced by the Bañuelos family. The El Mexicano portfolio currently includes Blanco ($40), Blanco 45 ($55), Reposado ($45), Añejo ($100), and Extra Añejo ($225). In addition, the Bañuelos family will develop “a bespoke luxury brand” for Foley.

“El Mexicano is a high-quality hidden gem from one of the most respected Tequila families in Mexico,” said Foley Family Wines president Shawn Schiffer. “This was the right move for us as the popularity of the Tequila category is fueling overall growth in spirits and resonates with key consumer demographics.”

The Bañuelos family previously created the Cazadores brand, which it eventually sold to Bacardi. In the Foley spirits portfolio, El Mexicano will join Charles Goodnight Texas Straight Bourbon Whiskey and Lighthouse Gin.—Daniel Marsteller
