Mark Reynier’s Waterford Irish Whiskey Expands Into New U.S. Markets

April 26, 2024

Waterford Whisky, maker of Irish single malts, has partnered with distributor Frederick Wildman & Sons to enter the New York and New Jersey markets. The brand was founded by Mark Reynier, also founder of independent bottler Murry McDavid and the man who revived Bruichladdich.

The move expands Waterford’s reach in the U.S. where the brand is also distributed by Johnson Brothers in MN, WI, IN, SD, ND, NE, HI, NC, WV, and RI; and Breakthru, which handles the portfolio in MD, DC, DE, SC, IL, MO, CO, NV, FL, CA, and AZ. The Irish whiskey label is imported by Texas-based Morf Brands.

Waterford’s focus is on terroir and teaching consumers the flavors that can be introduced by barley grown in different parts of the world. “What we are proposing is whiskey like it used to be where it was all about the barley,” Reynier tells SND. Waterford works with over 100 Irish farmers from a variety of terroirs and produces only organic and biodynamic single malts.

Waterford recently revamped its portfolio, uniting the brand behind a trio of 50% abv whiskies. They include flagship release Koffi ($90), peated whisky Fumo ($100), and organic offering Gaia ($90). Koffi, Reynier notes, is a marriage of 24 different whiskies that represents an overall expression of Ireland’s terroir.—Shane English
