New Poll Shows Florida Ballot Initiative Has Enough Support To Pass
June 11, 2024Floridians will vote on whether to legalize adult-use cannabis in the Sunshine State this fall, and a new Fox News poll shows support for the measure is above the 60% threshold needed to pass. The poll found that 66% of Florida voters support the initiative, including a majority of every demographic except those 65 and older.
By political party, 76% of Democrats support the measure, along with 71% of independents and 57% of Republicans. The survey noted the opinions of 1,075 registered voters and took place earlier this month.
Florida is especially well positioned to make the transition to adult-use sales, with the state already seeing $2 billion in medical sales annually from nearly 900,000 registered patients. The first year of adult-use sales could range from $4.9 billion to $6.1 billion, according to industry analysts Headset.
Meanwhile, as anticipated, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis vetoed a bill that would have scaled back the market for hemp THC products in the state, saying it would undercut small businesses and likely not achieve its desired effect.—Daniel Marsteller
