CEO David Goubert Departs Ayr Wellness

September 24, 2024

David Goubert has stepped down as president and CEO of multistate operator Ayr Wellness. Goubert’s tenure at Ayr began in October 2022 when he was appointed president, with his duties expanding to include the chief executive position in February 2023. Goubert is the second high-profile member of Ayr’s leadership team to leave this year, following executive chair and director Jonathan Sandelman who left the company in July.

In Goubert’s place, Ayr’s board has appointed Steven M. Cohen as interim CEO while the company conducts a search for Goubert’s successor. Cohen has served as an outside advisor to Ayr, though his experience in the cannabis industry is limited. These moves come amid challenges for Ayr, which reported flat revenues of $117 million in the second quarter with tough market conditions cutting into earnings, with adjusted EBITDA down 13% to $26 million.—Shane English
