October 14, 2024•This winter, Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG) and the New York Marriott Marquis hotel are putting a new spin on the View Restaurant & Lounge, New York City’s only revolving restaurant. The original View opened in 1985 atop the Times Square hotel—a popular spot for tourists and large events, including Wine Spectator’s annual New York Wine Experience—where it offered guests 360-degree views of the Big Apple skyline before closing in 2020. •Monkey 47, the upscale German gin brand from Pernod Ricard, is debuting the 14th offering in its Distiller’s Cut series. The special edition is called Capparis, nodding to the addition of capers as a 48th botanical added to the gin’s recipe. Monkey 47 Distiller’s Cut 14 is bottled at 47% abv and has an SRP of $80 for a 375-ml. It’s available online at Flaviar/Caskers, which will hold a special presale. Monkey 47 had U.S. volume of 28,000 cases last year, according to Impact Databank.
•Suntory Global Spirits has announced the latest release in El Tesoro Tequila’s Mundial Collection, a new Reposado Tequila aged in Basil Hayden Toast barrels. The limited edition one-off release spends roughly six months in Basil Hayden barrels that were toasted and flash charred before bottling at 40% abv. El Tesoro Mundial Collection: Basil Hayden Toast edition is the third release in the series and follows 2021’s Laphroaig cask aged Tequila and 2023’s iteration, which matured in Knob Creek rye barrels. The new release is available in limited quantities for a suggested price of $175 a bottle. El Tesoro recently earned Impact “Hot Prospect” honors after climbing 70% to 53,000 cases in the U.S. last year.
