Bondi Gets Vote Of Confidence From Trulieve
November 26, 2024While incoming President Donald Trump’s new pick for attorney general Pam Bondi has in the past been on the anti-reform side of the cannabis issue, Trulieve CEO Kim Rivers issued a vote of confidence that she’s a “great pick” to lead the Justice Department.
“I have always known her to be straight forward and very fair,” Rivers said on X. “She is passionate about ending the opioid crisis and did great work shutting down pill mills in Florida. She is an advocate for safe, regulated markets and I believe she will bring the same energy to end the fentanyl issues our country is facing.”
Although Bondi opposed adding smokeable flower to Florida’s medical program in 2016, Rivers noted that the stance was following guidance from governor Rick Scott at the time. Flower was subsequently added to Florida’s medical program in 2019 under governor Ron DeSantis.
Elsewhere in the incoming administration, Trump’s pick for secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. is in favor of ending federal prohibition of cannabis, but within that department the president-elect’s choice to head the FDA, Marty Makary, has been outspoken in his opposition to cannabis.—Daniel Marsteller
