February 14, 2025•Indian whisky brand Paul John has launched Nirvana in the U.S., a new entry-level single malt. The 40% abv whisky is distilled from Indian non-peated 6-row barley and matured in American oak. Nirvana was first released in 2018 and is now rolling out across America. The new offering carries a suggested price of $33 a 750-ml., with the company positioning it as a trade-up option for blended and entry-level Scotch drinkers. Paul John is handled by Sazerac in the U.S.
•Israel’s Darom by Yatir has announced a new 2023 vintage Cabernet Sauvignon, the first varietal wine from the Darom brand. The wine is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petite Sirah, and 5% Syrah from vineyards in the southern Judean Hills. The wine is at 13% abv and carries a suggested price of $35 a bottle. Darom’s Cabernet Sauvignon is OU certified as Kosher for Passover, and imported by Royal Wine Corp.
•Hotaling & Co. has announced the retirement of Bruce Joseph, the company’s master distiller. Joseph ends his tenure after nearly 45 years, having signed on with then-Anchor Brewing Company in 1980. In the early 1990s, Joseph turned to distilling and launched Anchor Distilling, releasing the first batches of Old Potrero rye and Junipero gin in 1996. With his retirement, Joseph will serve as distillery consultant and master distiller emeritus for the company. In addition to its house-made brands like Old Potrero and Junipero, Hotaling & Co. handles Nikka and Hirsch whiskies, and Hine Cognac, among others, in the U.S.
