May 6, 2025•Ohio has taken a meaningful step towards regulating intoxicating hemp products, with the state Senate voting unanimously last week to limit the sale of hemp-derived THC. The bill—Ohio Senate Bill 86—would push hemp-derived THC products into the state’s adult-use dispensaries. The bill, which is now being considered by the state’s House, would also levy a 10% tax on hemp-derived THC products, restrict the products to adults over 21 years old, and mandate testing protocols for hemp-derived THC.
•Music legend George Clinton has partnered with Khalifa Kush and Planet 13 to launch The Funk, a new line of infused pre-rolls. The new release is made from Motorbreath flower and Daily Grape live resin and is aimed at consumers seeking high-potency cannabis. The new pre-rolls are exclusively available in Planet 13 locations, including the company’s flagship Las Vegas superstore and entertainment complex.
•Canadian cannabis company High Tide reports that it saw C$6.8 million ($4.9m) in revenues over the weekend surrounding 4/20. The figure, according to the company, was 10% higher than during the same period the previous week. The company saw “strong and accelerating sales momentum across all of High Tide’s retail channels,” said Raj Grover, founder and CEO. High Tide is known for its Canna Cabana chain which has 196 locations throughout Canada.
•Canadian cannabis operator SNDL saw revenues rise 3.6% to C$205 million ($148m) for Q1 2025. The company attributes the revenue bump to its cannabis business, which was up nearly 17% for the quarter. Gross profit for the quarter was up 12.4% to C$57 million ($41m) with gross margin of 27.6%, a new record for the company. In addition to rising revenues, SNDL expanded its industry reach during Q1, taking a 5.4% stake in High Tide. Following the close of the quarter, SNDL also acquired 32 cannabis retail stores from 1CM Inc.
