Report: U.S. Dietary Guidelines To Advise Moderation Rather Than Specific Drink Limit
June 20, 2025The upcoming update for the Dietary Guidelines for Americans is likely to drop the existing guidance on alcohol consumption, according to Reuters. In its place, the outlet reports, will be a government recommendation to drink in moderation, without a specific number of drinks given as an example of healthy consumption.
Currently, the guidelines recommend no more than two drinks per day for men and one for women. If accurate, the change in policy would be a boon for the beverage alcohol industry, which has opposed the updating of guidelines toward a more restrictive set of recommendations.
