News Briefs for July 24, 2025
July 24, 2025•Pernod Ricard-owned Altos Tequila has rebranded, with new packaging and labeling inspired by the brand’s heritage. The new labels are modeled after rótulos, or hand-painted signs, found in many areas of Mexico and give the new bottles a splash of color while still showing off the liquid. The revamp covers all Altos releases, including Plata, Reposado, and Añejo, as well as the brand’s ready-to-serve Margarita. The new packaging is rolling out now across the U.S., with a global launch slated for September. Altos had U.S. volume of just under 300,000 cases last year, according to Impact Databank.
•You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. Nor can you make Champagne from still wine injected with carbon dioxide. But that’s exactly what Didier Chopin, 56, allegedly did, labeling and selling hundreds of thousands of bottles of fake Champagne from 2022 to 2023. For two days in June, a court in Reims heard charges of fraud, misuse of appellation and abuse of corporate assets. A verdict and sentence are scheduled for Sept. 2.
