Sparkling Wine Resilient As Pricing Stability Improves
August 1, 2025Amid challenging conditions for the overall wine market, key sparkling categories like Prosecco and Champagne have returned to growth this year. A survey of the leading sparklers in U.S. retail channels shows that most imported bottlings are on the rise so far in 2025, with some of the key domestic players also seeing resilient sales.
Leading sparkling wine label La Marca from Gallo is up 7% by volume in Circana channels in the year-to-date through July 13, building on its 3.4-million-case U.S. tally from last year. Second-ranked Mionetto has climbed by a similar percentage, with its overall volume likely to cross 1 million cases this year.
“La Marca is now a top-10 beverage alcohol SKU across all categories,” notes Britt West, chief commercial officer at Gallo. “I think that shows the continued consumer interest in sparkling at particular price points.”
From the French sparkling category, Champagne heavyweights Veuve Clicquot and Moët & Chandon have both showed solid retail growth in 2025. So too has fellow French bubbly Luc Belaire from Sovereign Brands, in which Pernod Ricard holds a stake. “The $50–$100 range continues to be the top performer, especially for flagship cuvées like Moët Impérial Brut and Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label,” Scott Bowie, SVP of Champagne & Sparkling at Moët Hennessy,” told SND.
On the domestic side, California sparklers like Chandon and Mumm Napa are growing at retail this year. And Freixenet-Mionetto USA recently expanded its portfolio with the Korbel brand, effective July 1. “Together, we will take this brand to new heights and are humbled for this opportunity,” said Enore Ceola, CEO of Freixenet-Mionetto USA.
“We’ve seen strong momentum in the first half of 2025, which signals that the post-Covid dip is behind us,” says Gerard LeClercq, vice president of marketing at Folio Fine Wine Partners, whose portfolio includes Piper-Heidsieck and Piper Sonoma. “The sparkling wine space has grown fiercely competitive post-Covid. Where we once saw double-digit growth across the board, today’s success is about building sustainable market share and consistent performance.”
For imported wines especially, the ongoing trade tensions between the U.S. and Europe remain a potential threat to growth. While the two sides have struck a deal at a 15% tariff rate for most European goods in the U.S., wine and spirits marketers are hopeful that their products will be included on a zero-for-zero tariff list that is still being compiled.
