McConaughey’s Pantalones Tequila Showing Sharp Gains This Year
August 21, 2025Pantalones Organic Tequila, founded by Matthew and Camila McConaughey and spirits entrepreneur Andrew Chrisomalis, launched in late 2023 and jumped out to 50,000 case depletions in 2024 in its first full year on the market, according to Impact Databank. Distributed nationally by Southern Glazer’s, the brand continues to make strides this year, rising nearly 1200% by volume and 1500% by value in NielsenIQ channels in the year-to-date through July 12.
Chrisomalis tells SND he sees the momentum for Pantalones continuing through the balance of the year, targeting robust double-digit gains. “We’re expecting very strong growth in distribution, thousands of accounts. We’re expecting very significant double-digit depletion growth throughout the country and globally as well,” he says, adding that Pantalones has gained traction in key accounts both on- and off-premise. The brand is certified organic, with its Blanco retailing for $40, the Reposado for $45, and the Añejo for $50.
Pantalones is backed by its “The Official Tequila Of” campaign, which covers print, digital, social, and out-of-home channels and features the McConaugheys. Chrisomalis also hints at some forthcoming innovation activity on the brand.
Pantalones is also recruiting consumers through partnerships with major sports teams like MLS’s Austin FC and, now, baseball’s New York Mets. The latest move will make Pantalones the “Official Organic Tequila of the New York Mets” and will see the brand featured throughout Citi Field, including in a new signature cocktail, the Citi Field Sunset.
Chrisomalis notes that partnering with a team with an international following in a top sports market in the U.S. is a big win for the brand. “We’re super excited to meet our target consumers in a place where they’re having fun and watching their team,” he says.
Further sports tie-ups could be in the brand’s future. “We’ve done a few tailgates at UT Austin with Matthew and it’s been such a fun, high energy, exciting atmosphere,” he says. “We’re not in any discussions at the moment, but we love the whole arena of professional football and we think college is potentially interesting as well.”—Shane English
