Lawrence Family’s Lascombes Debuts New Merlot From Former Ornellaia Winemaker

September 2, 2025

The Lawrence family is extending the range of its Bordeaux property Chateau Lascombes with a new entry called La Cote Lascombes. The 100% Merlot bottling is the first new offering from the estate since former Ornellaia winemaker Axel Heinz joined Lascombes as CEO in 2023. Heinz helped build Italy’s Masseto, another Merlot-based wine, into one of Italy’s most revered bottlings.

Retailing at $199 a bottle, La Cote Lascombes is sourced from a single block of Merlot planted on both limestone subsoil and the same stratum of Eocene blue clay found under Pomerol’s greatest estates, according to the company. It’s rolling out through Lawrence family-owned importer Demeine Estates this month.—Daniel Marsteller
