Impact Databank: French Wines Outperforming In The U.S.
September 10, 20252024 was a bounceback year for the French table wine market in the U.S., as pricing stability returned after post-pandemic hyperinflation, offering drinkers a more attractive price-value equation. Even as higher tariffs threaten to derail the recovery in 2025, importers are seeking to post another gain, in the hopes of returning the category to pre-pandemic levels.
Last year, French table wines’ volume share stood at 20% of total imports, compared to just 13% a decade earlier, according to the 2025 edition of The U.S. Wine Market, Shanken’s Impact Databank Review & Forecast.
French table wine has continued to outperform this year, as volumes in IRI/Circana channels increased 2.6% in the year-to-date period ending August 10, compared to a 5.7% decline for all table wines. Growth was even faster at higher price points, as table wines from France priced at least $20 a 750-ml. bottle combined for a 7.2% increase in volume terms at retail. And while France trails Italy among all imported wine origins by volume, France is number-one in dollar terms, according to Impact Databank.
According to BusinessFrance, the fastest-growing appellations in the U.S. through the first six months of 2025 were Burgundy and Provence, with 11% and 6% growth, respectively, in value terms. And while rosé resumed its traction last year, growth was registered across many segments of the French wine sector, according to the 253-page Impact Databank report.
Leading volume player La Vieille Ferme from Vineyard Brands is up double-digits at retail so far this year, as is Hampton Water rosé from Hampton Water Wine Co. and Coté Mas from Palm Bay International, while Moët Hennessy-owned Chateau Minuty has more than doubled in retail channels year-to-date.
Elsewhere, fourth-ranked Louis Jadot’s Burgundy portfolio, imported by Kobrand, continues to thrive in all channels among white and red wines—particularly its Pouilly-Fuisse, Chablis, and Pinot Noir bottlings—as well as Beaujolias crus like Chateau des Jacques and non-alc entrant Pierre Chavin.
Beyond the top French labels, year-to-date retail volume growth has also been registered in 2025 by Shaw-Ross’s The Pale Rosé by Sacha Lichine (+21%), Biagio Cru’s Rosé All Day (+12%), and Kobrand’s Maison Aix (+6%). Last year, the fastest-growing brand in the French sector was Avaline Rosé, which also benefits from being in another trending category—low-calorie wines.
