Sazerac Acquires Texas-Based Western Son Distillery
October 2, 2025Sazerac continues to make bolt-on acquisitions in the spirits category, with the company announcing its purchase of the Texas-based Western Son distillery and its namesake vodka brand for an undisclosed sum. According to Impact Databank, Western Son vodka posted strong growth from 2018-2022, rising from 172,000 to 416,000 cases in the U.S. market. Since then it has receded some, depleting an estimated 380,000 cases last year.
Sazerac CEO Jake Wenz noted that Western Son “has created a strong brand and it provides us an opportunity to continue to augment our portfolio, while also adding additional production capacity and capabilities to our network.”
Western Son is the latest in a string of deals that have expanded Sazerac’s portfolio. Late last year, Sazerac agreed to purchase the 3.4-million-case Svedka vodka brand from Constellation for an undisclosed amount. And earlier in 2024, it added the multimillion-case Buzzballz RTD label—playing across the spirits, wine, and malt-based segments—in a transaction reportedly valued at $1 billion.
Sazerac had estimated U.S. volume of just under 43 million cases last year, accounting for a 14% volume share of the total spirits market, according to Impact Databank.—Daniel Marsteller
