April 7, 2015•Baltimore’s Heavy Seas Beer is introducing a new limited-release brew, Blackbeard’s Breakfast, across its 18-state footprint. Part of Heavy Seas’ “Uncharted Waters” series, Blackbeard’s Breakfast is an imperial coffee porter brewed with Chesapeake Bay Roasting Co. Dark Sumatra coffee and aged in Bourbon barrels. The 11%-abv offering, which includes eight different malts, will be available from May-June.
•Milwaukee-based Lakefront Brewery is releasing a whiskey barrel-aged version of its Beer Line Organic Barley Wine this month. The newcomer, which Lakefront says is the first USDA-certified organic barrel-aged barley wine in the U.S., was aged for 18 months in rye barrels from Virginia’s Catoctin Creek Distillery. The 14%-abv product is hitting retail shelves this week in a limited run of 3,100 22-ounce bottles. Lakefront Brewery, founded in 1987, produces around 45,000 barrels annually, with its distribution territory covering 36 states, as well as Canada and Japan.
