News Briefs for May 18, 2015
May 18, 2015•Florida-based Mahalo Spirits Group has partnered with Kentucky’s Bardstown Bourbon Company with plans to develop new Bourbon brands produced at Bardstown’s Nelson County distillery, which is currently under construction. Mahalo and Bardstown expect to introduce their first brand later this year. Bardstown Bourbon Company, led by entrepreneur David Mandell as president and CEO and former Maker’s Mark distiller Steve Nally as master distiller, began construction on its $25-million, 37,000-square-foot distillery last October. Mahalo bills itself as “a full-service brand innovation company” offering sales, marketing and other services. Led by former advertising executive Stephen Groth, its other current partner brands include Angel’s Envy (recently acquired by Bacardi), Papa’s Pilar Rum and Sorel Artisanal liqueur.
•Alcohol delivery provider Drizly has secured $13 million in Series A financing from Polaris Partners, along with participation from First Beverage Group and existing investors. Drizly says it will use the funds to continue expansion of its alcohol delivery business, and plans to “invest heavily in product development, sales and marketing, operations and global distribution.” The service currently operates in more than 15 markets across the country and works with over 150 retail and supplier partners. The funding follows last week’s announcement of an alliance with Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of America (WSWA), which took a minority stake in the company.
