August 5, 2015•Russian River Partners, a vineyard investment fund run by Eric Flanagan of Flanagan Vineyards, has purchased the Platt Vineyard, located in the Sonoma Coast wine region near the town of Freestone. The 31-acre vineyard is planted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling and is a source of grapes for several Sonoma wineries, including Ramey, Radio-Coteau, Littorai, Scherrer and Red Car. The price was not disclosed, but the vineyard was part of a larger package of a 500-acre estate and a house that was on the market for $19.5 million. Wine Spectator has more.
•Australia’s McWilliam’s Wine Group has officially launched a new millennial targeted red blend in the U.S. market, Wildling, originally reported in SND July 24. Retailing at $15 a 750-ml., Wildling is a blend of Shiraz, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon that is initially debuting in 12 states, imported by South Carolina-based Total Beverage Solution. McWilliam’s director of international markets Mark Hely told SND that Wildling, targeted at the millennial segment, is the first brand the company has specifically designed for the U.S. market.
•MillerCoors is adding to its Redd’s flavored beer franchise with the nationwide launch of Redd’s Wicked Black Cherry, which follows the spring release of Redd’s Wicked Mango. The Black Cherry offering is an 8%-abv dark-golden beer with cherry flavors on a crisp apple base, the company says. MillerCoors is supporting the launch with print and TV ads. Redd’s Wicked Black Cherry is available in 16- and 24-ounce single cans and 12-packs of 10-ounce cans. The Redd’s franchise has been a strong performer for MillerCoors lately, with its original Apple and Strawberry flavors earning Impact “Hot Brand” honors for 2014.
