SPI Group Taps Moët Hennessy Veteran Louzada To Lead Luxury Wine Unit
August 5, 2015Stolichnaya vodka owner SPI Group has named Manuel Louzada to lead its newly formed luxury wine division. Louzada was previously estate director of Spain’s Bodega Numanthia, part of the Moët Hennessy Estates & Wines portfolio, since 2009.
In his new role, Louzada will oversee SPI’s wine holdings, led by Argentina’s Achaval-Ferrer and its minority ownership of Marchesi de’Frescobaldi-controlled Italian estates Tenuta dell’Ornellaia, Castelgiocondo and Luce della Vite. The SPI wine portfolio also includes newly acquired Spanish winery Arínzano, whose offerings include the super-premium positioned Gran Vino and La Casona.
Achaval-Ferrer and Arínzano are both exclusively distributed in the U.S. by SPI subsidiary Stoli Group USA. While Arínzano is new to the portfolio, Stoli Group USA CMO Lori Tieszen tells SND that the upscale Achaval-Ferrer brand “grew double-digits last year and is continuing that trend this year.”
