U.S. Now Largest Export Market For New Zealand Wines
August 17, 2015On the strength of strong premium-level growth, the U.S. has become the largest export market by value for New Zealand wines, overtaking Australia. In the 12 months through June, New Zealand wine shipments to the U.S. grew 13% to NZ$372 million ($242m), accounting for one-quarter of the country’s total exports, according to the New Zealand Winegrowers.
The trade group highlighted the potential for ongoing growth in the U.S., where premium-and-above Kiwi offerings have prospered in recent years, led by Impact “Hot Brands” Kim Crawford, Oyster Bay, Nobilo, Starborough and Matua. According to Impact Databank, New Zealand wine volume in the U.S. has expanded by 62% over the past five years, reaching 5.7 million cases in 2014.
