April 7, 2016•Barbara Richards, who founded Paloma Vineyard in Napa Valley with her husband, Jim, and created one of California’s finest sources of Merlot, died of complications from a stroke Monday, Wine Spectator reports. She was 83.
•Knoxville, Tennessee-based craft beer retail franchise The Casual Pint plans to more than double its store count and expand its U.S. footprint this year. The company, which currently has 10 stores throughout Tennessee and Ohio, plans to open at least 15 more franchise-owned The Casual Pint locations by the end of 2016. The expansion will include entry into Alabama, Arizona, Kentucky, Nebraska, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas, bringing The Casual Pint’s reach to 25 outposts across nine states. Established in 2011, The Casual Pint began began franchising its craft beer market concept in 2013.
•375 Park Avenue Spirits, a division of Sazerac, is releasing a limited edition under its Highland single malt Scotch brand anCnoc. A collaboration with Scottish-born fashion designer Patrick Grant, the new product, anCnoc Blas (108 proof/$75), was matured in half American oak and half first-fill Oloroso casks. Blas is the Gaelic word for “taste.”
