September 6, 2016•Sazerac Co. has acquired Last Drop Distillers, a purveyor of luxury spirits brands founded in 2008 by industry veterans James Espey and Tom Jago. The family-owned Last Drop is currently headed by the co-founders daughters, Bernie Espey and Rebecca Jago, both of whom are expected to continue leading the company following completion of the deal. James Espey, currently Last Drop’s co-chairman, said in a statement that the acquisition “allows us to grow our international footprint and broaden our opportunities to search for the rarest spirits in the world.”
•Texas craft distiller San Luis Spirits has launched Dripping Springs Traditional Gin. Billed as a juniper-forward traditional London dry gin reinvented with Southwestern flavors, Dripping Springs is at 47.5% abv. The new product will be distributed across Texas, as well as other select markets throughout San Luis’s 14-state footprint.
•Juneau-based Alaskan Brewing Company is releasing a 30th anniversary beer, Perseverance Ale. The Russian imperial stout-style offering is brewed with local Alaskan ingredients like birch syrup and alder-smoked malts. The name refers to the Perseverance Gold Mine, which operated in Juneau from 1912 to 1921 and was for a time the largest gold mine in the world. Alaskan Brewing’s distribution footprint spans 18 states.
