Bacardi Ltd. has taken a minority interest in Ilegal mezcal for an undisclosed sum.Made from 100% Espadin agave, the super-premium Ilegal includes Joven, Reposado and Añejo variants. The brand, which launched in 2005, will continue to operate independently under founder John Rexer. With the Bacardi investment, Ilegal will be aligning nationally with Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits Transatlantic Spirits division. Bacardi has been partnered with Southern Glazer’s nationally since last year. —Daniel Marsteller
