April 6, 2017•New York-based importer Palm Bay International has linked with Italian winemaker Carlo Ferrini to launch Infiné 1939, a new super-premium Pinot Grigio. Intended to commemorate the life of Palm Bay founder David Taub, Infiné 1939 is sourced from 15- and 28-year-old high-altitude vines located on Trentino’s Dolomite Alps. Concurrently, Palm Bay has released At Last Cuvée Bianco, a limited production blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer and Rhine Riesling created to complement Infiné 1939. Both Infiné 1939 and At Last Cuvée Bianco will be available across New York, New Jersey, Florida, California, Massachusetts, Texas and Illinois, retailing at $26 and $50, respectively.
•Templeton Rye has unveiled plans to build a new distillery at its current production site in Templeton, Iowa. The project includes a 34,500-square-foot distillery, which will have a capacity of around 500,000 proof gallons annually, as well as an aging warehouse with room for 40,000 barrels. Construction is estimated to be completed within 18 months after breaking ground. Templeton, whose core rye whiskey retails at around $40 a 750-ml., recently launched its first new product in 10 years, a limited 6-year-old rye priced at $50.
•Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits has donated $150 million to Florida’s Step Up For Students Scholarship program. The donation will provide over 21,000 scholarships for students living close to or below the poverty line during the 2017-2018 school year. Since 2010, SGWS has donated $465 million to the program.
