Maison Ferrand Sees Solid Gains For Upscale Spirits Lineup
November 7, 2017Maison Ferrand, the upscale spirits producer led by master blender Alexandre Gabriel, says solid progress in the Cognac, gin and rum categories will drive its portfolio to about 120,000 cases this year, marking an increase of about 70% over the past five years.
The Pierre Ferrand Cognac collection is on track to deplete around 25,000 cases in 2017, up 14%. While the company is focused on growing its core Cognac ($40), it’s also experimenting with higher proof spirits and different barrel finishes with its new Renegade series. The inaugural Renegade release (48% abv/$90) was finished in Sauternes barrels and is rolling out now. Ferrand’s Citadelle Gin is also continuing to rise this year, with the company projecting depletions to increase 17% to 35,000 cases. Citadelle ($25) will be debuting a redesigned bottle and label by early 2018.
Guillaume Lamy, Ferrand’s vice president, Americas, projects that the Plantation Rum brand will eclipse 60,000 cases this year on a rise of around 70%. About 8,700 cases of Plantation’s volume is sold in its Pineapple Stiggins Fancy rum ($35), which sells out each year, Lamy notes. To bolster production on Plantation, Ferrand acquired the historic West Indies Rum Distillery in Barbados for an undisclosed sum earlier this year.—Shane English
