Boston Beer Names Burwick As New President And CEO
February 15, 2018Boston Beer Company has appointed Dave Burwick president and CEO. Expected to assume the role sometime in the second quarter, Burwick succeeds Martin Roper, who will step down after leading the company for more than 17 years. Founder Jim Koch remains chairman of the craft beer pioneer. Burwick most recently served as president and CEO of California-based Peet’s Coffee, and he has also served on Boston Beer’s board of directors since 2005. Prior to joining Peet’s, Burwick held stints as president of North America for Weight Watchers and CMO of Pepsi-Cola North America, among other leadership roles. His appointment comes amid a period of slowing sales for the craft beer giant, with Boston Beer reporting revenue and depletion declines of 3% and 3.5%, respectively, for its third quarter ended September 30. The company is scheduled to report its full-year 2017 results next week. —Christina Jelski
