News Briefs for June 21, 2019
June 21, 2019•Pernod Ricard has completed its acquisition of Malfy Gin from Biggar and Leith, originally announced on April 17.
Terms weren’t disclosed. Malfy, which includes Originale, Con Limone, Con Arancia, and Gin Rosa varieties, has volume of roughly 100,000 cases globally, is produced in Italy, and retails at around $30. Pernod Ricard says the deal further bolsters its position in super-premium gin, following its acquisitions of Monkey 47 in 2016 and Ungava in 2018.
•Centre Vinicole-Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte (CV-CNF) has acquired Champagne house Henri Abelé from Freixenet (now controlled by Germany’s Henkell) for an undisclosed price. Henri Abelé is an on-premise exclusive, with about 35,000 cases sold annually. Though the Champagne house doesn’t own any vineyards, it has cultivated a number of long-term contracts with growers throughout the Montagne de Reims and Côte des Blancs sub-regions, which CV-CNF will now have access to. Nicolas Feuillatte is the fourth-ranked Champagne brand in the U.S. by volume, with volume of 860,000 cases last year. Feuillatte is imported by Ste. Michelle Wine Estates.
