Champagne’s U.S. Shipment Value Soars In First Half
August 30, 2019Champagne export volumes to the United States increased by 3% in the six months ending June 30, according to recently released statistics from French government agency BusinessFrance. By value, the shipments number was more robust, rising by 16% to €238.1 million ($264m).
Champagne sales also registered solid gains in IRI channels for the calendar year-to-date period ending August 11, increasing 5.8% by volume and 5.1% by value. Veuve Clicquot, the top-selling Champagne in the U.S., gained 5.8% by volume and 7.7% in value in IRI channels, while second-ranked Moët & Chandon declined slightly year-to-date. Veuve Clicquot (+3.8% to 519,000 cases in calendar 2018) and Moët & Chandon (+2.1% to 411,000 cases), which are both part of the Moët Hennessy USA portfolio, combined to make up over 60% of Champagne consumption in the U.S. last year, according to Impact Databank.—Juan Banaag
