Legendary Henri Jayer Burgundy Collection Nets Record For Christie’s
February 16, 2012Wines from the private cellar of the late Henri Jayer, a legendary Burgundian winemaker and collector, were auctioned February 10 at Christie’s Hong Kong, establishing a litany of world records, reports Wine Spectator. Netting $8.5 million with 100% sold, the average price per lot was a staggering $83,443. (In 2011, the average price per lot in Hong Kong was $8,225.) Top lot was a case of Vosne-Romanée Cros Parantoux 1985 that sold for $265,147 (362% above the Wine Spectator Auction Index average). Other highlights included two magnums of Richebourg 1985 that brought $218,357 (up 435%) and three bottles of Richebourg 1978 that fetched $202,760 (up 27%).
