Whisky Advocate: The Kentucky Derby Is Postponed, But Virtual Events—And Mint Juleps—Are On
May 1, 2020The Kentucky Derby has joined the long list of events postponed in order to curb the spread of Covid-19. Moved back just over four months from its original date of May 2, the 146th Derby is now scheduled for September 5.
This doesn’t mean that the first Saturday in May is bereft of Derby celebrations, however, as Churchill Downs has a full day of interactive virtual events planned, including Bourbon-centric content from Woodford Reserve. Yesterday, Woodford unveiled a poignant new video spot called “My Kentucky Home.” Set at a vacant Churchill Downs, it features Kentucky cellist Ben Sollee playing solo in the Derby Winner’s Circle.
For a preview of the Derby festivities, join Whisky Advocate on Instagram Live today at 3 p.m. where Woodford Reserve master distiller Chris Morris will discuss the virtual Derby and more. Whisky Advocate has all the details. —Sam Stone
