Exclusive: Boxed Wine Comes To Oregon, As Sokol Blosser Revamps Evolution Brand
May 14, 2020Oregon wine pioneer Sokol Blosser is innovating on its Evolution brand in what it says is a first for the Oregon category. In July, Evolution will enter the boxed wine segment, launching 1.5-liter boxes of an Oregon Pinot Noir and Lucky No. 9 White Blend retailing at $25 and $18 respectively.
“This new offering is a first, and syncs up perfectly with two exploding categories in retail: ultra- premium wine from Oregon and wine in a box,” notes company CEO Alison Sokol Blosser. She adds that Evolution’s 1.5-liter boxes are also expected to perform well in on-premise by-the-glass programs moving forward, and potentially in the expanding takeout and delivery segment as well. Initially, the wines will debut in 15 markets—among them Oregon, Washington, California, Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas—with several more states to be added in short order.
Along with the new boxed wines comes a revamped look for the Evolution franchise, which will continue to offer 750-ml. bottles in addition to its boxed entries. Rolling out across Evolution’s bottled wines later this year and into 2021, the makeover is intended to create a more contemporary look and feel for the brand. In addition to the boxed wines above, Evolution includes Chardonnay, Riesling, a red blend, and several sparkling wines, with annual production totaling about 70,000 cases.—Daniel Marsteller
