Sonoma’s Jordan Vineyard Sells Land To Native American Tribe: Wine Spectator
April 13, 2012Sonoma-based Jordan Vineyard and Winery has sold 269 acres of land, including 110 acres of vineyard, to Lytton Rancheria of California, a federally recognized tribe of Pomo Native Americans, reports Wine Spectator. The purchase price wasn’t disclosed. Located in the Alexander Valley, the land is near—but was not part of—the original Lytton Rancheria tribal territory. The property had formerly served as Jordan’s first vineyard site but had since fallen into disuse after the winery acquired additional land. After the sale, Jordan—which produces an Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and a Russian River Valley Chardonnay—will still own more than 1,200 acres, 110 of which are planted vineyards. Lytton Rancheria hasn’t announced any specific development plans for the property, but did say it was possible that it would remain vineyard land.
