April 7, 2023•Celosa Tequila, a new luxury label, is launching with initial distribution in California, New York, Florida, and Texas via Legends Spirits and Southern Glazer’s. The new brand’s inaugural release is a joven rosa Tequila made exclusively from 7-year-old blue weber agave from the single-estate distillery Hacienda La Capilla in Jalisco, Mexico. It’s then rested in French oak red wine barrels from Napa Valley that previously held Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. Celosa is at 40% abv and retails for $129 a 750-ml. The brand was founded by Jose Beckmann, representing the 12th generation of the family behind Jose Cuervo, along with Paul Pietrini and Javier Alonso.
•San Francisco, California-based Hotaling & Co. has announced the latest single barrel expressions from Old Potrero Rye Whiskey. The distillery is debuting three new bottlings: a single barrel straight rye whiskey, a straight rye finished in sherry casks, and a straight rye finished in port casks. The first is aged eight years and three months and bottled at 65% abv; the second, aged four years and three months and finished in Oloroso sherry casks, is bottled at 63% abv; and the third, aged seven years and three months and finished in French oak port casks, is at 65% abv. Only 6,400 bottles are available nationwide and all three expressions retail for $90 a 750-ml. beginning in May.
•Indianapolis, Indiana-based RTD producer Mom Water, an Impact “Hot Brand,” is launching a new line: Dad Water. While Mom Water is a vodka-based line of flavored canned cocktails, Dad Water is Tequila-based. It will launch with four fruit flavors at 5.2% abv, available in major retailers and chains where Mom Water is currently sold, with plans for DTC sales in the works. Dad Water will be available in a variety eight-pack priced at $20. In 2022, Mom Water rose to 481,000 cases in only its second year on the market, according to Impact Databank.
•Terlato Wines has promoted Mike McAvoy to divisional vice president, East. Previously Mid-Atlantic region manager, McAvoy has also held sales roles with Breakthru Beverage and Treasury Wine Estates among others. In his new role he’ll report directly to Chris Miller, Terlato’s executive vice president of sales.
