Exclusive: Terlato Acquires Riazul Tequila
April 19, 2023Terlato Wine Group has acquired Riazul Premium Tequila and Riazuleno Mezcal and all associated assets for an undisclosed sum. Terlato has long represented Riazul in the U.S., and now intends to infuse the brand with fresh capital and the resources required to grow the brand moving forward. Riazul sells about 10,000 cases annually stateside, with its expansion held back by scarcity, Terlato says.
Riazul founder Iñaki Orozco will retain a minority carried interest and continue to promote the brand, and master distiller Ruben Morales will also stay on. The new company will be named TAS Agave LLC (a Terlato Company). Riazul includes Plata ($62), Reposado ($74), Añejo ($100), and Extra Añejo ($195) expressions.
“We believe the luxury Tequila market will continue to grow and this purchase will enable us to grow Riazul and continue to expand our business outside the U.S. into international markets,” said Bill Terlato, CEO of Terlato Wine Group and TAS Agave LLC. “Our spirits business is booming, and this is a strategic acquisition that fits perfectly within our luxury spirits portfolio and will accelerate the development of our long-term spirits plan.”—Daniel Marsteller
