Cannabis Briefs for August 1, 2023
August 1, 2023•TeaPot, The Boston Beer Company’s cannabis-infused iced tea brand, launched its newest flavor, Good Evening Iced Tea, in Blueberry Chamomile. It’s infused with Black Sugar Rose, an indica-dominant strain grown by Entourage Health Corp under its Color Cannabis brand. Like TeaPot’s other products, it’s non-carbonated, does not taste or smell of cannabis, and contains 5mg of THC per can. Intended for unwinding at the end of the day, it joins recent releases like Mango Green Tea and Lemon Black Tea, and will debut in Ontario, available at select dispensaries and online.
•Minnesota’s cannabis legalization law goes into effect today, officially permitting adults to possess and home-cultivate marijuana for personal use. In addition to the rules that allow possession of up to two ounces of cannabis flower or eight grams of cannabis concentrate in public, state officials will now begin reviewing and expunging tens of thousands of cannabis convictions, with an estimated 66,000 eligible for expungement. Sales are expected to begin next year. “Nearly half of all Americans now reside in a jurisdiction where the adult use of cannabis is legal,” NORML’s deputy director Paul Armentano said. “To date, no state has moved to either curtail or repeal these legalization laws. That’s because these policies are working largely as voters and lawmakers intended and they are clearly preferable to criminal marijuana prohibition.”
•Seattle, Washington-based Jones Soda announced the first special edition crossover release between its regular Jones Soda and its cannabis-infused Mary Jones line. The new Hatch Chile and Lime soda will be available from both brands this year. Featuring smoky chile flavor and bright lime, the Mary Jones version of the special release, available now in California through the end of summer, comes in both 10mg and 100mg of THC options. Jones Soda plans to expand Mary Jones from California to Michigan, Nevada, and Washington, with additional markets to be announced.
•Houston, Texas-based 8th Wonder Cannabis is introducing Lil Bit as an addition to its line of canned cannabis drinks. True to its name, Lil Bit is a low-dose, fast acting seltzer designed as an entry point into the cannabis world. It’s launching with two flavors—Cherry Limeade and CannaBerry—both containing just 2mg of hemp-derived THC per can.
