•Shelbyville, Tennessee’s Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey has unveiled “My Sugar Baby,” the latest commercial from the brand. The ad will run across the U.S. on cable and streaming services and features the music of Motown songwriter and producer Frank Wilson, father of Uncle Nearest founder Fawn Weaver. The commercial, narrated by actor and brand investor Jeffrey Wright, showcases a rare recording of Wilson performing his own “My Sugar Baby.” Last year, Uncle Nearest’s portfolio reached 140,000 cases in the U.S., according to Impact Databank, up from 30,000 cases in 2019.

•Edrington’s Brugal 1888 has expanded into Texas via a new partnership with Republic National Distributing Company (RNDC). To celebrate the expansion, the Dominican rum will host “Wonders Await at La Casa Brugal” in three cities—San Antonio, Houston, and Austin—across the Lone Star State. In addition to Brugal 1888, the rum producer makes Blanco, Añejo, and Extra Viejo rums, along with other limited edition releases. Last year, Brugal grew by 11% to 106,000 cases in the U.S., according to Impact Databank.

•Proximo Spirits-owned Great Jones Distillery has debuted a new line of bottles featuring artwork by Jean-Michel Basquiat. In addition to the three special-edition bottles, there’s also a distillery exclusive whiskey from the Manhattan-based distiller, aged for six years in a Pineau de Charentes wine cask, bottled at 91 proof, and selling at $150. The initiative also includes “The Basquiat Bar,” a temporary popup in the distillery’s underground speakeasy space, a “Basquiat’s New York” tasting room and tour experience, and a capsule collection.
