October 4, 2023•Santa Teresa rum has announced the brand’s first limited edition expression, 1796 Speyside Whisky. As the name suggests, the Venezuelan rum is finished in Speyside Scotch whisky barrels for 13 months before bottling. Only 2,100 bottles of this limited edition will be released with each carrying a suggested price of $50 per bottle. Santa Teresa 1796 Speyside Whisky is available in limited retail locations, as well as through Drizly and the brand’s website. Bacardi handles Santa Teresa’s rums in all export markets.
•The Dalmore has announced The Cask Curation Series Sherry Edition, a new trio of single malts finished in Sherry casks from Gonzalez Byass. The youngest whisky in the collection is a 26-year-old malt matured in ex-Bourbon casks and finished in a 2002 vintage Sherry cask before bottling at 48.2% abv. The second whisky—a 28-year-old malt at 55.3% abv—matured in ex-Bourbon casks before finishing in a 30-year-old Matusalem Sherry cask. The final whisky in this year’s Cask Curation Series is a 43-year-old whisky finished in a 30-year-old Apostoles Sherry cask after its initial maturation in ex-Bourbon barrels. It is at 46.8% abv. Only 150 sets of whiskies will be released to select retailers around the globe, selling at $37,500 each.
•Terlato Wine Group has extended The Federalist with a Pinot Noir. Sourced from California’s Central Coast and aged eight months in oak barrels, the newcomer retails at $22 a 750-ml. and is rolling out nationally. The Federalist grew 1% to 370,000 case depletions in the U.S. last year, according to Impact Databank.
•Heaven’s Door Spirits, the whiskey collection founded by Bob Dylan, is launching Homesick Blues Minnesota Wheated Bourbon. It’s a limited release that pays homage to Dylan’s birthplace of Duluth, Minnesota. Bottled at 61% abv, it has been aged seven years in the extreme temperature fluctuations of Minnesota’s north country. A limited-edition bundle featuring the new biography Bob Dylan: Mixing Up the Medicine and bottle, complete with a custom box with a copy of Bob Dylan’s original handwritten lyrics to Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door, is now available for pre-order. The book and the bottle can also be purchased separately through the brand’s website.
•19 Crimes, part of the Treasury Wine Estates portfolio, has partnered with Universal Studios on Halloween releases featuring iconic Universal monsters Dracula and Frankenstein. The wines are 19 Crimes’ Red Blend and Cabernet Sauvignon, which are being released with limited edition labels that glow in the dark and feature new artwork of the two undead creatures. The special edition bottles are on shelves now through the end of the month.
•New Zealand’s Giesen, imported by Opici, has expanded its non-alcoholic 0% line with a new brut sparkler. Giesen 0% Sparkling Brut will hit shelves in time for the holiday season and is made from grapes from the Waipara region in the South Island of New Zealand. The sparkler is fermented and then the alcohol is removed, creating a wine that is only 21 calories per 5-ounce serving and contains no alcohol. Giesen 0% Sparkling Brut is now available across the U.S. for a suggested price of $20 a bottle.
