William Grant & Sons Appoints Heineken Veteran Søren Hagh As CEO

November 1, 2023

William Grant & Sons has appointed Søren Hagh as CEO, effective January 1. Hagh joins Grant from Heineken, where he is currently president of the Europe region, the brewer’s largest global region. At William Grant, he succeeds Glenn Gordon, who will remain as a non-executive director on the board. Hagh “brings a tremendous wealth of relevant experience to the business from his many years working in the drinks sector and with his substantial commercial and marketing experience building global consumer brands in a number of sectors,” the company stated.

William Grant recently posted sales up 22% to £1.72 billion ($2.1b) for 2022, with profit after tax jumping 34% to £331 million ($404b). That brought the company’s performance above pre-Covid levels. Today, the company noted that the “business continues to perform well in 2023, maintaining record levels of investment in its brands and distilleries despite more difficult market conditions.”

The William Grant portfolio, which totaled 3.4 million cases in the U.S. last year on 4% growth, according to Impact Databank, includes the Glenfiddich, The Balvenie, Grant’s, Hendrick’s Gin, Sailor Jerry, Tullamore D.E.W. Irish Whiskey, Monkey Shoulder, and Drambuie brands.—Daniel Marsteller
