Report: Diageo Again Urges Court To Keep Combs Out Of DeLeon Ads
December 6, 2023Diageo has urged a New York court for a second time to prevent former partner Sean “Diddy” Combs from appearing as the face of DeLeon Tequila, following multiple sexual assault allegations against Combs in recent weeks, Rolling Stone reported. Diageo first sent a letter to the court asking to keep Combs out of DeLeon ads in mid-November, and last Friday renewed its entreaties in the wake of more allegations against Combs.
The second letter said that in light of the multiple allegations Combs’s image has now become toxic, and that it would be unfair for the court not to prevent Diageo from incurring harm to the DeLeon brand by its association with him. Combs was accused by singer Cassie (Cassandra Ventura) of a yearslong pattern of abuse, before reaching a settlement with the singer. Two more women have since come forward alleging sexual assault against Combs. Separately, Diageo is seeking to move the larger dispute with Combs over the DeLeon and Ciroc brands to arbitration, a move on which its appeal is expected to be decided upon next spring.—Daniel Marsteller
