January 30, 2024•A rye from Green River, the latest Woodford Double Double Oaked, and newcomers from Buzzard’s Roost and Nelson Brothers are among the offerings featured in Whisky Advocate’s latest weekly roundup. The website has all the details.
•Alma del Jaguar Tequila plans to extend into several new markets in the first quarter of this year, including California, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Oklahoma, and South Carolina. The recently launched brand says it saw sales of 13,000 cases in its first six months, gaining active distribution in 1,100-plus accounts across Arkansas, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Tennessee, and Texas. In 2024, the brand is projecting 30,000 cases sold across 3,000 accounts in 15-16 markets. Part of the Tennessee-based Morningside Brands portfolio, Alma del Jaguar is produced in partnership with the 5th generation Vivanco Tequila family.
•NightOwl, a canned Espresso Martini, has expanded distribution across New Jersey, Connecticut, and Nashville, Tennessee, after debuting last year in New York, Florida, and New Jersey. NightOwl has aligned with Allied Beverage Group (NJ), Brescome Barton (CT), and BountyBev in Nashville (TN) in the new markets. The brand will be sold in independent bars and restaurants as well as major chain retailers such as Bottle King, Total Wine, BevMax, and Stew Leonard’s Wine & Spirits. The brand’s vodka and Tequila styles are both at 12.5% abv. They’re marketed in single-serve and 4-packs ($20) of 200-ml. cans.
•G.H. Mumm Champagne, part of the Pernod Ricard portfolio, has named Yann Munier as cellar master. Munier’s career has primarily been spent at the Covama cooperative. After a five-year interlude at Nicolas Feuillatte, he returned to Covama in 2017 as its cellar master. Now he’ll take on the same role at Mumm, which has global volume of around 620,000 cases, according to Impact Databank, including about 36,000 cases in the U.S.
