Whisky Advocate: 20 Highest Single Bottle Hammer Prices Of January

February 6, 2024

January whisky auctions saw a diversity of styles. Notable antique bottles appeared at Sotheby’s sale of Bourbon and rye in New York, as well as a 12-bottle case of private barrel Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve 20 year old distilled at Stitzel-Weller Distillery and bottled in 2007 for a restaurant in San Francisco. It fetched a hammer price of $130,000, valuing each bottle at $10,800.

Aside from single bottles, Whisky Hammer drew a bid of $138,943 for a refill Bourbon barrel of Springbank 1993 containing enough whisky for 149 bottles. With Bourbon, rye, Scotch, Irish, and Japanese whisky making the list, the 20 highest single-bottle hammer prices for January fetched a monthly total of $637,064. Whisky Advocate has all the details.
