New Jersey Dispensary Count Tops 100, Boosting Rec Sales

March 4, 2024

New Jersey has surpassed 100 dispensaries statewide, helping adult-use sales in the Garden State reach $674 million last year. Despite more than 60% of New Jersey municipalities opting out of having cannabis businesses in their jurisdictions, cannabis businesses have operating licenses in every county, and there is now at least one dispensary in 20 of New Jersey’s 21 counties.

“After having just 12 alternative treatment centers for more than eight years, we have seen a proliferation of businesses in the last two that clearly demonstrates consumer demand and the potential of the cannabis industry in New Jersey,” said Jeff Brown, executive director of the state’s Cannabis Regulatory Commission, adding that he expects momentum to continue moving forward. “There is every indication that the overall sales amount will rise this year and next.” New Jersey’s cannabis market is expected to top the $1 billion mark this year.—Daniel Marsteller
