May 3, 2024•Diageo is introducing George Dickel Bottled in Bond Spring 2011, Aged 12 Years. The newcomer retails at $45 a bottle and has a mashbill of 84% corn, 8% rye, and 8% malted barley. Bottled at 100 proof, it was charcoal mellowed like the rest of the Dickel lineup, with Diageo’s director of George Dickel & Luxury Whiskey, Nicole Austin, overseeing the whiskey at Tennessee’s Cascade Hollow Distilling.
•Carmelo Anthony has partnered with Robert Mondavi Winery through the retired NBA star’s VII(N) the Seventh Estate. The first wine from the partnership is Ode to Soul, a red blend created by Robert Mondavi winemaker Geneviève Janssens, Anthony, and Anthony’s business partner Asani Swann. The 2021 vintage wine is at 14.5% abv and is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 49% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. The wine is now available at Robert Mondavi Winery’s Arch & Tower Lounge in downtown Napa and through the brand’s website for $275 per bottle.
•Terlato Wine Group has promoted Tony Terlato, II to vice president, off-premise national accounts. In his new role, he’ll lead Terlato’s off-premise national account team and look to expand the company’s luxury brand presence and share in the off-premise chain channel across wine, spirits, and non-alcoholic beverages. After serving with Southern Glazer’s and Empire Merchants, Terlato joined the family business in 2017 as regional sales manager. Since then, he has held several roles with increased responsibility including on-premise national accounts, chief of staff, and Center of Excellence VP. He reports to Sandra LeDrew, Terlato Wine Group president and COO.
•Napa, California’s Quintessential has added Goose Ridge Estate Winery to its portfolio, expanding the importer and marketer into Washington for the first time. The move will see Quintessential handling Goose Ridge’s brands like G3 by Goose Ridge, Revelation by Goose Ridge, StoneCap, Among the Giants, Benton Hills, and Cascadian Outfitters, effective immediately. The family-owned winery runs the largest contiguous estate vineyard in Washington state, located in the Goose Gap AVA. Goose Ridge’s wines range a variety of price points, with G3 selling for around $15, Revelation for around $20, Among the Giants at $18, and 6-packs of cans of Cascadian Outfitters at around $30.
•Chateau Ste. Michelle is extending its namesake brand into the lower alcohol and lower calorie category with Light. The new line debuts with two varietals—Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc—both retailing for $13. The wines contain 80 calories and zero sugar per 5-ounce serving, with both at 9% abv. Chateau Ste. Michelle Light’s Chardonnay is sourced from the Horse Heaven Hills AVA with the Sauvignon Blanc coming from Washington’s Columbia Valley.
•Breakthru Beverage has appointed Adam Pizer as senior vice president, supplier business development, wine. In his new role Pizer will report to CCO Kevin Roberts and guide the company’s wine strategy, including expanding Breakthru’s education program. Prior to his promotion Pizer led many of Breakthru’s wine programs, and helped to develop Aspect, Breakthru’s fine wine division.
