May 23, 2024•Portugal’s Sogrape has launched Solisto, a new sparkling Portuguese wine, in the U.S. The wine is made from 55% Maria Gomes, 28% Cercial, and 17% Alvarinho, all varietals indigenous to Portugal. The sparkler is imported by Evaton, Sogrape’s U.S.-based importer and distributer. Solisto carries a suggested price of $15 a bottle and is rolling out now in Massachusetts, New Jersey, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
•WhistlePig has released CampStock Wheat Whiskey, a new limited edition release made in partnership with Solo Stove. The whiskey is a blend of wheat whiskey (85%) and WhistlePig’s rye (15%) with the blend finished in barrels toasted using a Solo stove before bottling at 43% abv. The whiskey is now available across the U.S. for a suggested price of $75. In addition to the bottles available at retail, CampStock is available in limited edition bundles that include a Solo Stove Mesa XL and firewood made from CampStock barrels, among other add-ins.
•Campari Group’s Wild Turkey has opened the Jimmy Russell Wild Turkey Experience, a new visitor center at the company’s Lawrenceburg, Kentucky campus. The new facility covers 12,000 square feet and features an outdoor pavilion and bar for tastings and events, a walking tour covering Wild Turkey’s history, the Generations Lounge bar, and a retail shop, plus two additional tasting rooms. Last year, Wild Turkey was at 872,000 cases in the U.S., according to Impact Databank.
•Brown-Forman’s Woodford Reserve has launched the latest addition to the whiskey brand’s Distillery Series, Toasted Bourbon. The 45.2% abv Bourbon matured for more than six years in heavily toasted, lightly charred barrels, after barrels intended for Woodford Reserve Double Oaked’s second maturation were filled with new make. The limited edition release is now available at Woodford’s distillery and will soon be available in limited distribution in Kentucky for a suggested price of $65 a 375-ml. Last year, Woodford grew by 11.1% to 1.42 million cases in the U.S., according to Impact Databank.
•California’s Sapporo-Stone Brewing has announced that phase one of its $60 million upgrade plan is nearly complete. Phase one entailed a $20 million investment on Sapporo-Stone’s Escondido brewery, while the next phase of the project involves $40 million in expansions and improvements to the company’s Richmond, Virginia brewery. When completed, production capacity will have roughly doubled to 700,000 barrels per year. This expanded headroom will allow Sapporo-Stone to brew all of Sapporo’s beers between the two breweries.
