News Briefs:

•Brown-Forman’s Old Forester has launched the latest limited edition whiskey in the 117 Series, a rum barrel-finished Bourbon. The 47.5% abv whiskey begins as Old Forester’s standard Bourbon before finishing for roughly six months in rum barrels. Old Forester 117 Series Rum Finish is now available for $60 a 375-ml. at Old Forester’s distillery and in select retailers throughout Kentucky. In addition, 2-bottle sets, retailing for $120, can be ordered through the brand’s website for delivery to Washington, D.C., Kentucky, Nebraska, New Hampshire, and North Dakota. Last year, Old Forester was up 13.5% to 485,000 cases in the U.S., according to Impact Databank.

•Mare Island, California’s Savage & Cooke, the spirits project from California winemaker Dave Phinney, has announced a packaging update for its line of whiskies. The refresh sees the new bottles adorned with white parchment labels, red font accents, and a replica Civil-War-era California State Militia medallion. In addition to the redesigned labels, the whiskey comes in a new bottle that the company says was chosen for ease of use by bartenders. Savage & Cooke’s core lineup includes a cask strength American whiskey, a Bourbon finished in Cabernet Sauvignon barrels, and a rye finished in Grenache barrels, among other special and limited releases.

•The Finnish Long Drink has released the Midnight Sun variety pack, featuring a new flavor from the spirits-based RTD brand: Pineapple. The 8-pack contains four cans of the brand’s original sparkling gin-and-grapefruit cocktail, at 5.5% abv, as well as two cans each of the brand’s 5% abv Cranberry- and Pineapple-flavored variants. The brand is available in 43 markets across the U.S. and the new variety pack retails for around $18-$20. Last year, the Finnish Long Drink was up 80% to 1.8 million cases, according to Impact Databank.
